Called to Be Kingdom Citizens

December 8, 2024·2 min read·Dave Scherrer

We are not just saved from something—we are saved to something. Discovering our royal identity in Christ and what it means for daily life.

When we come to faith in Jesus Christ, something remarkable happens. We are not merely rescued from judgment—we are transferred into a new Kingdom. We become citizens of heaven while still living on earth.

More Than Forgiveness

Many believers stop at the cross. And while the cross is absolutely central to our faith, it is not the end of the story. The resurrection declares that Jesus is King, and His Kingdom has come.

Paul writes in Colossians 1:13 that God "has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves."

This is not future tense. This is present reality.

A New Identity

As Kingdom citizens, we have:

  • A new allegiance — We serve the King of Kings
  • A new purpose — We advance His Kingdom
  • A new power — The same Spirit that raised Christ lives in us
  • A new community — Fellow citizens from every tribe and nation

Living It Out

What does Kingdom citizenship look like in everyday life? It means seeing every interaction as an opportunity to represent our King. It means bringing heaven's values—justice, mercy, love, truth—into every situation we encounter.

The Kingdom of God is like a child who dances when there is no music, who laughs when there is no joke, who hugs when there is no sadness, who gives when there is no need, who loves when there is no merit.

Are you living as a Kingdom citizen today?
