This from CNBC on October 10, 2023:

Hamas launched a devastating and coordinated land, sea and air assault on Israel over the weekend, sparking chaos in the region and thrusting the nationalist movement firmly into the global spotlight.

The militant Palestinian group orchestrated an unprecedented attack on Israel on Saturday, killing many hundreds of people and injuring thousands more. Hamas’ fighters have also taken more than 100 Israeli civilians, soldiers and foreign nationals hostage.

The attack marked the deadliest assault the country has suffered in generations and led Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare that his country is at war.

Israel’s counteroffensive against Hamas has seen its military conduct a barrage of airstrikes across the enclosed territory of the Gaza Strip, also killing many hundreds of people.

Israel is mobilizing a record 300,000 reservists and imposed a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip, seeking to stop the supply of electricity, food, water and fuel to the already blockaded population of roughly 2.3 million people. It says it has now secured control of the Gaza-Israel border.

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/10/hamas-israel-conflict-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-hamas.html1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.

2 O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer;

And by night, but I have no rest.*

A grieving world watches in horror once again. Sadly, it will not be the last horror we will face as humanity looks to “get even.” Our capacity to hold a grudge is amazing. And our intent to extract revenge is well formed. This fallen world is irreparably broken. The hearts of humanity are filled with the sins of hundreds of generations of learned and inherited evil.

What are we to do in the face of this broken heartedness? We are poured out like water. How can we go on?

The Psalmist continues and answers the question for us:

Psalm 22:3-5

3 *Yet You are holy,

O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.

4 In You our fathers trusted;

They trusted and You delivered them.

5 To You they cried out and were delivered;

In You they trusted and were not disappointed.*

And Jesus charges us to pray. Against the backdrop of this bankrupt and fallen kingdom of the Evil One, we pray for the Kingdom of God:

Matthew 6:8b-10

Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

100 Fold Ministries invites you to remember our widows, our children, our innocents, the desperate and the grieving. The wounded and the dying, the families separated and the leaders who now, more than ever, need the wisdom of God. We pray hope for the hopeless and peace for the war-torn. We pray, “Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus.”

Goodness This is weirdly a tough subject. The task? Defining Goodness. It doesn’t seem that it should be that hard but . . . Here at Backyard Conversations we have been ruminating on what are called the “philosophical transcendentals,” or the ideas of “Truth, Beauty and Goodness.” And we are asking

Beauty and Masculinity Can the word beauty and masculinity exist in the same sentence? That is a tough sell for many men. For instance, many men, when led in worship to sing “Jesus, you are so beautiful” find that hard to wrap their heads around. We are used to Joe Cocker singing to a beautiful [...
